Disc Makers Becomes the Official Vinyl Pressing Sponsor of Record Store Day

Industry pioneer re-enters the vinyl record market after 15 years and partners with largest supporter of independent record stores

September 23, 2014, (Pennsauken, NJ) Disc Makers, the world's leading independent disc manufacturer, announced today that it is the official vinyl pressing sponsor of Record Store Day. The company, known worldwide for its premium CD manufacturing, recently reintroduced vinyl manufacturing to its line of products.

"This partnership is a natural fit," said Tony van Veen, CEO of DIY Media Group, Disc Makers parent company. "Disc Makers has long supported independent music, and Record Store Day is a proud supporter of independent record stores, which are the lifeblood of the industry. After all, most of our customers didn't fall in love with music by shopping in a big box store. They fell in love at their local record store, staffed by diehard music fans."

Vinyl manufacturing played an important role in Disc Makers' history. The company started pressing vinyl records for Philadelphia R&B bands in the late 1940s. Their list of famous vinyl clients includes the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Against Me!, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Wu-Tang Clan, Sun-Ra and more.

"We're even using the very same vintage Hamilton presses we used back in the day," says van Veen. "Only now we're offering more packaging options, including colored vinyl, gatefold jackets, and more. This is a finely crafted, American made product that any musician will be proud to put their name on."

"When Record Store Day relaunched the vinyl business in 2008 we had no idea it would change the world," said Michael Kurtz, co-founder of Record Store Day. "Now that manufacturing has grown beyond capacity it's important that artists and record labels have the ability to get their music pressed on vinyl. We're glad that Disc Makers has stepped in to help Record Store Day and the artist/label community so that we can all continue to grow."

"It's our hope," says van Veen, "that vinyl enthusiasts who know Disc Makers will become more aware of the great work that Record Store Day does for the industry, and vice versa."

Record Store Day's Black Friday takes place on Friday, November 28th. Record Store Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in April.
